What it means: The victory snapped the Mets’ six-game losing streak. The Mets had lost eight of their past nine games.
Scoring Drought Over: The Mets scored their most runs since beating the Phillies 9-5 in 10 innings at Philadelphia on August 28, a span of 14 games.
The Mets scored just four runs total while getting swept in three games at Citi Field by the Washington Nationals. Against Milwaukee on Friday night, they had four runs in the first two innings, highlighted by Daniel Murphy’s two-run shot in the second.
Lucas Duda’s lead-off homer to deep center and two unearned runs, all off reliever Manny Parra in the sixth, made it 7-2. Andres Torres reached on shortstop Jean Segura’s throwing error and then scored on a double by Josh Thole. He advanced on Jonathon Niese’s infield single. Ruben Tejada lined a grounder to Aramis Ramirez at third who threw to second to get Niese. Thole scored on second baseman Rickie Weeks’ throwing error trying to complete the double play.

Niese Wins: Niese won for the first time after losing his previous three starts. His last victory was August 18th when he beat the Nationals 2-0 in Washington. He pitched five-hit ball with seven strikeouts over 7 1/3 innings
Against the Brewers, he allowed two runs on six hits in six innings. He walked three and struck out five. It was the first time he’s walked more than two batters in any of his past 18 starts while pitching six innings or more. That stretch was the longest in team history.
His only rough inning was the second, when the Brewers scored on Travis Ishikawa’s run-scoring ground-rule double and a Mike Fiers RBI single.
Niese turned in a good defensive play in the second. He snared Segura’s comebacker and caught Carlos Gomez breaking from third. Niese threw to David Wright who ran down Gomez and tagged him out.
Hit Men: Lucas Duda finished 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, a run scored and two RBIs.
David Wright was 2-for-5 with two doubles and a run scored.
Daniel Murphy was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBIs and a walk.
Going Long on the Road: Murphy hit his sixth home run of the season in the second, a two-run shot that was his fifth home run on the road. Hitting safely in 13 of his last 14 games, his average is .370 (20-54) in that span.
Wright Extends Hitting Streak: Wright’s double in the first extended his hitting streak to eight games. He’s batting .379 (11-29) in that span. He also doubled in the fifth. He came into the game third in the NL with a .331 road batting average.
Hitting with Two Outs: Lucas Duda’s run-scoring, two-out double in the first means the Mets have scored 68 two-out runs in 59 games (1.15 runs per game) in the second half this season. They led the majors with 187 two-out runs in the first half (86 games, 2.17 runs per game).
Ramirez Allows A Run: Ramon Ramirez pitched the ninth for the Mets. He allowed one run on pinch-hitter Nyjer Morgan’s triple after a walk to Segura with one out. Ramirez struck out Norichika Aoki swinging and got Rickie Weeks to pop out in foul territory.
All’s Forgiven: The Brewers pitchers did not retaliate as some thought they might.
The last time the Mets and Brewers faced each other on May 15 at Citi Field, reliever D.J. Carrasco plunked Ryan Braun. When the Mets came to bat in the top of the sixth, Mets manager Terry Collins kept David Wright on the bench and away from a possible retaliatory pitch. While the Brewers cruised to an 8-0 victory, speculation was that the shutout in the final of the two-game series was not enough payback for a perceived intentional throw.
Next up: The Mets will battle the Brewers again tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET
