What it means: Jenrry Mejia’s bid for his first victory in 35 career games, including four starts, ended as the Milwaukee Brewers scored five times in the fourth.
Jenrry had a bad day: Mejia allowed five runs on six hits in 3-plus innings and walked five. He threw 32 of his 68 pitches for strikes. His best inning was the third, when he needed just 13 pithces to get through the heart of the order. Ryan Braun singled, Aramis Ramirez flied out, Jonathan Lucroy popped out and Taylor Green ground out.

Bullpen door busy: Mets manager Terry Collins used seven relievers against the Brewers. They allowed a combined four runs on six hits with a walk and four strikeouts. Jeremy Hefner (wild pitch, home run, couldn’t hold a 4-3 lead), Justin Hampson (1 run), Collin McHugh (1 run), Manny Acosta (hit Aramis Ramirez), Robert Carson (1 run), Elvin Ramirez and Jeurys Familia.
Davis tries to rally Mets in 9th: Ike Davis hit his 27th home run of the season when he hit the first pitch from reliever John Axford for a two-run homer in the top of the ninth. It was his 20th on the road, the second most in the NL, and pulled the Mets to 9-6.
Mejia’s main squeeze: Mets manager Terry Collins put on the suicide squeeze in the fourth before Jenrry Mejia stepped into the batter’s box. Jordany Valdespin was 90 feet away after he singled, advanced on a wild pitch and stole third. He broke for home as Brewers starter Shaun Marcum delivered. Mejia squared up on the first pitch and placed a perfect sacrifice bunt onto the first-base side of the infield grass. Valdespin scored standing up. Andres Torres took second on the play. Ruben Tejada singled Torres home and a double by Daniel Murphy scored Tejada as the Mets took a 4-1 lead.
Base blunder: Murphy singled to start the third. David Wright lofted a looping flyball between shallow center and right. Centerfielder Nyjer Morgan raced in while Murphy ran toward second, watching Morgan close on the ball. Murphy raced back to first, but the throw beat him by several steps. The double play hurt because the next batter, Ike Davis, doubled off the wall in left. Lucas Duda grounded out to second.
Hot bat: Murphy went 3-for-5 with a run and RBI. His three singles skyrocketed his batting average to .419 (18-43) with three doubles, two home runs and six RBI in September.
Reyes' place: Former Met shortstop Jose Reyes (2003-2011) made the 500,000th error in MLB history as the Marlins played the Cincinnati Reds in Florida. Drew Stubbs hit a smash to short which Reyes fielded, but then he had trouble getting the ball out of the glove and thrown.
What's next: The Mets and Brewers wrap up the series tomorrow at 2:10 p.m. ET. Chris Young (4-7, 4.39 ERA) takes the hill against Wily Peralta (1-0, 3.46 ERA).
