Justin Turner plans to play winter ball in the Dominican Republic with Escogido, the reigning Caribbean Series champion. Escogido is managed by former Mets bench coach Ken Oberkfell.

Turner also played for the squad two years ago.

The extra workload may be useful because Turner enters Monday's series opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates with only 175 plate appearances this season. He had 487 plate appearances in 2011.
Adam Rubin has covered the Mets since 2003. He's a graduate of Mepham High School on Long Island and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He joined ESPNNewYork after spending 10 years at the New York Daily News.
