WHAT IT MEANS: Ike Davis belted a pair of homers and drove in a career-high five runs to take over the team RBI lead and Jenrry Mejia earned his first major league victory as the Mets won their fourth straight home game, 6-2 against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday night.

Davis -- who went deep against starter Kyle McPherson and reliever Jeff Karstens in consecutive innings as the Mets built a 6-0 lead -- became only the third first baseman in franchise history to reach the 30-homer plateau, joining Carlos Delgado (2006 and ’08) and Dave Kingman (1982). Overall, Davis became the 16th player in Mets history to reach 30 homers.

Davis has 18 homers since the All-Star break, which ranks second in the National League during that span. San Diego’s Chase Headley is the leader with 21.

It was Davis’ third multi-homer game of the season. He went deep three times on July 28 against the Arizona Diamondbacks and twice on Aug. 26 against the Houston Astros.

Davis now has a team-leading 88 RBIs. Wright, whose run-scoring single against Karstens preceded Davis’ three-run homer in the fifth, has 85 RBIs.

Wright went 1-for-3 with a walk. He pulled within two hits of matching Ed Kranepool’s franchise-record 1,418 career hits.

Mejia required 96 pitches to complete five innings, but did not allow a run. He improved to 1-5 in his career. Mejia’s line: 5 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K, 1 WP.

WHAT’S NEXT: Collin McHugh makes his first start since Sept. 10. McHugh (0-2, 3.86 ERA) opposes left-hander Wandy Rodriguez (11-13, 3.76) Tuesday at 7:10 p.m.
