In his first rehab start in the minor leagues since landing on the disabled list June 5 with right knee tendinitis, Oliver Perez was charged with four runs on five hits in six innings for Class A St. Lucie against Jupiter. Perez allowed a pair of homers, to players named Ben Lasater and Paul Gran. Perez struck out seven and walked one. He threw 86 pitches (59 strikes).

Carlos Beltran played center field in that Florida State League game, going 2-for-4 while playing a full nine innings and recording one putout.

"I dove for the first time today and no pain," Beltran said in a quote supplied by the organization.

Jerry Manuel suggested before Wednesday's Mets-Marlins game in San Juan that Perez's best fit when he eventually is activated from the disabled list may be in the bullpen.
