Mets ink Brian Bixler

The Mets have signed utility man Brian Bixler to a minor league contract with an invite to big league camp during spring training.

Bixler, 30, hit .193 with two homers and seven RBIs in 88 at-bats last season. He also has appeared with the Pirates and Nationals.

In the majors, Bixler has played 57 career games at shortstop, 10 at second base, two at first base and 47 in the outfield.
