Mets ink Rice, Torres to minor league deals

Former Rockie Carlos Torres has signed a minor league deal with the Mets.


The Mets have signed left-hander Scott Rice and right-hander Carlos Torres to minor league deals with spring-training invites.

Torres, 30, appeared in 31 games in relief for the Rockies last season and produced a 5.26 ERA. He also appeared with the Chicago White Sox in 2009 and 2010.

Rice, 31, appeared in 54 games in relief for Triple-A Albuquerque in the Dodgers organization last season. He has never appeared in the majors. Rice pitched for the independent Long Island Ducks in 2008.
