NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Former Mets outfielder Jason Bay is "pretty close" to agreeing to a contract with the Seattle Mariners, 710 ESPN Seattle reports.

The Mets bought Bay out of the final year of his contract, deferring some money. According to one report, Bay is free to earn as much as he can elsewhere without diminishing the amount the Mets owe.

Bay lives in Seattle in the offseason.
