Hairston field narrows?

The St. Louis Cardinals have signed ex-Met Ty Wigginton to a two-year, $5 million deal to serve as a righty bat for the bench.

The Cards had been in on Scott Hairston, but likely now are out of that pursuit. That appears to leave the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies as the primary competitors for Hairston.

Hairston seeks a two-year deal.
