David Wright celebrates after getting the game-winning hit against Team Puerto Rico at the 2009 World Baseball Classic at Dolphin Stadium.

The Mets will not be decimated by defections during camp for the World Baseball Classic. In fact, a team official told ESPNNewYork.com, it is likely David Wright will be the only Mets player in major league camp participating in the event during spring training.

Ruben Tejada participated in qualifying with Panama in November, but his native country lost in a winner-take-all final against Brazil and will not be part of the main event.

The Diamondbacks' Chase Field as well as Salt River Fields at Talking Stick in Arizona will host the opening-round pool that includes the United States as well as Canada, Italy and Mexico from March 7-10.
Adam Rubin has covered the Mets since 2003. He's a graduate of Mepham High School on Long Island and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He joined ESPNNewYork after spending 10 years at the New York Daily News.
