Carlos Beltran, who had been expected to play the first of back-to-back games in center field Friday, instead served as the DH in Game 1 of a doubleheader at Fort Myers and did not start Game 2.
Beltran went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Class A St. Lucie. Both hits came against rehabbing major leaguer Clay Condrey.
A Mets spokesman did not immediately know if Beltran, who had arthroscopic knee surgery on Jan. 13, would attempt to play the back-to-back games in center field that are a prerequisite for being activated on Saturday and Sunday.
"It feels good right now. So far, so good," Beltran said in a quote supplied by the organization. "It doesn't bother me at all, and I am ready to take the next step."
