Mets ink 1B Hughes to minors deal

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- The Mets have signed first baseman Rhyne Hughes. He will report directly to minor league camp.

Hughes, 29, appeared in 14 games for the Baltimore Orioles in 2010. He hit .213 with four RBIs in 47 at-bats.

Last season, Hughes hit .278 with 13 homers and 51 RBIs in 266 at-bats at Double-A Bowie.
