PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Shaun Marcum surrendered a two-run homer to Chris Snyder in a three-run second inning in his Mets debut Saturday against the Washington Nationals.

Marcum's line: 2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 0 K.

"The first inning felt great. It felt real good," Marcum said. "There were a couple of pitches in the first, but that second inning I felt like I was pushing my changeups. I wasn't staying in my mechanics very well. So it's a good thing it's spring training and we can get out to the bullpen on Monday and keep working on it and improve it and get better each time out. ...

"The changeup is my main pitch. That's definitely a 'feel' pitch for me, so I throw it more than I throw anything else during the spring. I don't even throw my breaking balls until my third or fourth start. If I feel like I can throw my fastball and changeup where I want to, my breaking balls come pretty easy for me."

As for making his Mets debut, Marcum said: "I've changed before, but any time you take the ball and it's your first game, you always have a little adrenaline and a little excitement going on. Other than that, it's just a normal game and you've got to go out there and make your pitches. Like I said, I pushed a couple of changeups that were up in the zone."
