PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Daniel Murphy began hitting off a tee today for the first time since suffering a strained intercostal muscle on his right side that had required a cortisone shot in New York.
The Mets have maintained Murphy should be in a Grapefruit League game in roughly a week.
Murphy said Friday's activity went fine.
