PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- The Mets have made their first cuts of spring training, dispatching right-handers Cory Mazzoni and Rafael Montero and catcher Juan Centeno to minor league camp.
Mazzoni, a second-round pick in 2011 from NC State, started the Grapefruit League season quickly with five scoreless innings over his first two appearances. Overall, he finished with a 3.38 ERA in eight innings.
Montero, who split last season in Class A between Savannah and St. Lucie, made two appearances spanning four innings. He had a 4.50 ERA and allowed six hits and no walks with one strikeout.
Centeno was 0-for-1. He appeared in two Grapefruit League games.
The Mets now have 55 players in major league camp.
