Game 85: Reds @ Mets

9:36 p.m.: The Mets lose their first home series since May 10-12 against the Washington Nationals as Jon Niese suffers a tough-luck 3-1 loss. Niese drops to 5-1 since returning from the disabled list. Chris Heisey robbing Jason Bay of a run-scoring extra-base hit, then belting a solo homer the following half-inning is the difference. Bronson Arroyo limited the Mets to one run in eight innings. Closer Francisco Cordero allowed a leadoff double to Ike Davis in the ninth and walked Josh Thole with one out but held on when Jesus Feliciano sent a screaming lineout to center field and Alex Cora flied out to right field.

8:48 p.m.: Tough break for Jon Niese in the seventh. He allows two infield singles that weren't exactly hard-hit balls -- a squibber down the third-base line by Drew Stubbs that stays fair and a pop-up bunt by Bronson Arroyo that drops behind the mound. Then, with two out, Brandon Phillips drops what's ruled a ground-rule double into the right-field corner. Reds 3, Mets 1 heading to the Seventh Inning Stretch.

8:40 p.m.: Chris Heisey takes away a run with his glove, then gives Cincinnati a lead a half-inning later with a solo homer off Jon Niese. Reds lead, 2-1, in the seventh.

8:35 p.m.: Jason Bay's bid to plate David Wright and give the Mets a lead in the sixth goes for naught when right fielder Chris Heisey runs down Bay's shot in the alley for the inning's final out.

8:21 p.m.: Despite consecutive singles to open the fifth by Josh Thole and Jesus Feliciano, the Mets come up empty. Alex Cora advances the runners with a groundout to first. Jon Niese strikes out. Jose Reyes, batting right-handed against the right-hander Bronson Arroyo, then hits an inning-ending comebacker.

7:41 p.m.: Brandon Phillips' solo homer in the third ties the score at 1.

7:28 p.m.: David Wright's one-out error allows Jonny Gomes to reach, but second baseman Alex Cora subsequently makes a diving stop to his right on Chris Heisey's liner for the second out. When Drew Stubbs then grounds out, Jon Niese completes his second scoreless inning.

7:21 p.m.: Angel Pagan's solo homer in the first inning, his sixth longball of the season, gives the Mets a 1-0 lead.
