Sources: Familia en route to majors

DENVER -- After the Mets' bullpen logged 10 1/3 innings in Tuesday's doubleheader, Jeurys Familia is being sent from Triple-A Las Vegas to Denver, multiple sources told ESPNNewYork.com.

It was not clear whether Familia immediately would be activated ... or if he would be activated at all.

With a gloomy, snowy forecast tonight, Wednesday's game could be postponed to a doubleheader Thursday. In that scenario, the 23-year-old Familia may only need to be activated between games if the bullpen were taxed in the opener.

The Mets did have two days off before Tuesday's doubleheader, but Greg Burke, LaTroy Hawkins, Brandon Lyon and Scott Rice relieved in both games of the twin bill.

With Shaun Marcum opening the season on the DL, Familia began the season on the major league roster as part of an eight-man bullpen. He appeared in one game, entering with a 1-0 deficit in the eighth inning against the San Diego Padres on April 4. Familia surrendered a run after a leadoff walk to Chris Denorfia, single by Yonder Alonso and wild pitch. The run stung because John Buck homered in the ninth and the Mets lost 2-1.

Familia was demoted two days later, when the Mets needed to promote Aaron Laffey once the fifth starter's turn was required.

With Las Vegas, Familia recorded his first professional save in his 51s debut. He logged five innings over four appearances, allowing five hits and a walk while striking out four and surrendering no runs.
