Left-hander Robert Carson, who was beaten out by fellow lefty Scott Rice for a bullpen spot at the end of spring training, is due to join the Mets, a baseball source told ESPNNewYork.com.

Carson, 24, had been 1-0 with a 1.17 ERA in eight appearances with Triple-A Las Vegas. He had limited opponents to two hits and two walks (one intentional) while striking out seven in 7 2/3 innings.

Lefty batters were 1-for-13 with one walk and five strikeouts against Carson with the 51s.

Assuming Carson is activated in New York, the corresponding move was unclear.

Terry Collins had noted in Colorado that Josh Edgin had lost velocity this season, and Edgin did surrender a homer to Bryce Harper Saturday that lifted the southpaw's ERA to 9.00, so that may be the most logical roster move. Then again, both Jeremy Hefner and Aaron Laffey again had issues Saturday, and the Mets prior to the game listed TBA rather than either as Thursday's starter.
Adam Rubin has covered the Mets since 2003. He's a graduate of Mepham High School on Long Island and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He joined ESPNNewYork after spending 10 years at the New York Daily News.
