Niese departs with injury; X-rays negative

Jonathon Niese departed Tuesday's game in the third inning after being struck on the inside of the right ankle with a comebacker off the bat of Dodgers second baseman Mark Ellis.

Niese, in apparent discomfort, sat by the first-base line before being escorted off the field.

X-rays were negative. He was diagnosed with a bruise of the lower right leg.
