The Mets, who played the Florida Marlins in San Juan during their last road trip, are expected to return to Puerto Rico next season for the same matchup. And that meeting could be to open the 2011 season, according to word filtering through the Mets clubhouse Saturday.
The Mets tentatively are scheduled to open the 2011 season as the road team against the Marlins, who would again agree to shift the home series from Miami to the island.
However, Marlins president David Samson told the Miami Herald he would not shift the season-opening series against the Mets from Miami to the island.
The June 28-30 three-game series between the Mets and Marlins in San Juan drew a combined 55,678 spectators and was deemed a success.
The buzz also was that the 2011 season would open with the bulk of games on a Friday, not the traditional Monday.
