Minors 5.27.13: Wheeler exits early

LAS VEGAS 9, SALT LAKE 7: Zack Wheeler started for the 51s but lasted just four innings, giving up five runs (three earned) on four hits, with four strikeouts and three walks. Wheeler threw 80 pitches, 41 for strikes, and gave up a pair of home runs. He wasn't charged with a loss, however, as Las Vegas (24-25) scored five runs in the fifth to break the game open. Shorstop Omar Quintanilla was 3-for-4, catcher Francisco Pena hit a pair of homers, and center fielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis went deep as well. Box

BINGHAMTON 6, PORTLAND 5: The B-Mets won in the bottom of the ninth. With a runner on third and two outs, Portland's Jeremy Kehrt threw a wild pitch, allowing the winning run to score. First baseman Allan Dykstra was 3-for-5 for Binghamton (29-22), including a home run. Jacob deGrom started and threw six innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on eight hits, with nine strikeouts and two walks. John Church blew the save, giving up three runs in 1 1/3 innings. SAVANNAH 4, GREENVILLE 1: Gabriel Ynoa improved to 6-2 for the Sand Gnats (29-20), throwing eight innings, giving up one run on six hits, with six strikeouts and no walks. Beck Wheeler picked up his fifth save, pitching a perfect ninth, with a pair of K's. Center fielder Eudy Pina was 3-for-5, including a home run. Left fielder Stefan Sabol also hit one out of the park. Box
