Reliever Scott Atchison, who made a rehab appearance Saturday with Class A St. Lucie, is experiencing renewed numbness in the fingers on his pitching hand, team officials said. The issue is related to a bone spur in Atchison's elbow.
Atchison will seek a second opinion as to whether surgery is necessary now to remove the spur, or whether he can simply allow the elbow inflammation affecting the nerve to calm with rest and address the spur after the season.
Atchison landed on the disabled list after experiencing the numbness during a May 13 appearance in St. Louis.
