MIAMI -- Tim Byrdak threw in an extended spring training game Saturday for the first time since undergoing surgery in August to repair a torn anterior capsule in his pitching shoulder.
The Mets are eyeing July for a return to the majors for Brydak.
Byrdak, 39, could provide a welcome complement to overworked Scott Rice. Rice, while effective, has appeared in 31 of the Mets' first 52 games -- on pace for a franchise-record 97 appearances.
