NEW YORK -- Facing Carlos Marmol was just what the Mets needed to avoid a sweep.
Down 3-0 entering the bottom of the ninth inning, the Mets rallied back against Marmol to secure a 4-3 victory on Sunday at Citi Field.
The Mets (25-39) had lost three straight coming in.
Jeremy Hefner picked up a no-decision, allowing one earned run in five innings. He has compiled a 2.40 ERA in his last five starts, but has just one win to show for it.
LOL: It was quite the comedy of errors. With runners on first and second and two outs in the top of the fifth, David Wright dove to snare a grounder off the bat of Alfonso Soriano. But Wright’s throw sailed over Daniel Murphy’s head, allowing Soriano to reach first and Starlin Castro to score from second.
The three errant throws and two-error gaffe led to the Cubs taking a 3-0 lead. It should lead "SportsCenter’s" Not Top 10.
DEBUTANT: Carlos Torres, fresh off his Saturday promotion, made his Mets debut, entering in the sixth in relief of Hefner. The 30-year-old pitched a pair of scoreless innings.
WHAT'S NEXT: Dillon Gee (5-6, 4.84 ERA) vs. TBA on Monday night at Turner Field.
