PHILADELPHIA -- John Ricco acknowledged the Mets are soliciting trade offers for outfielder Collin Cowgill, who was designated for assignment after Tuesday's game in Atlanta.
The assistant GM added, though, that the Mets would try to get Cowgill through waivers and send him to Triple-A Las Vegas if they were unable to get a suitable deal rather than release Cowgill. Cowgill can be in limbo for up to eight days before the Mets initiate the waiver process.
Cowgill, who was acquired from the Oakland Athletics last offseason for minor league infielder Jefry Marte, hit .180 with two homers in 61 at-bats with the Mets.
