Gee will pitch Saturday, with Zack Wheeler making his third major league start Sunday.
Terry Collins had three motivations for the decision:
• Harvey threw only 72 pitches Sunday in Philadelphia, when a rain delay cut short his appearance after six scoreless innings.
• Gee could use the extra rest because he has dealt with elbow tendinitis.
• Having Gee slip between Harvey and Wheeler splits the flamethrowers in the rotation, which Collins has been seeking to do. Collins also said it was important to separate Gee and Jeremy Hefner.
