CHICAGO -- Terry Collins insisted he did not know the exact date of Ike Davis' return to the majors. But, the manager reiterated Wednesday, the organization is trying to avoid promoting Davis at a time when the club faces a bevy of left-handed pitching.

So the upcoming lineup of pitchers apparently does not bode well for a Davis return before the middle of next week.

After facing their third straight lefty starter tonight (John Danks), the Mets get a reprieve in Denver on Thursday with righty Tyler Chatwood.

But back at Citi Field this weekend, the Mets will see two left-handers: Ross Detwiler on Friday and Gio Gonzalez on Sunday. The Mets also should see two southpaws during the next series against Arizona: Patrick Corbin and Wade Miley.

Davis, incidentally, is hitting .429 with two homers and a walk in 14 at-bats against lefty pitching and .257 with three homers and 13 walks in 35 at-bats against righty pitching while in Triple-A.
