Frenchy to start soon

Jeff Francoeur won't have to wait until Sunday, when the next left-hander is officially listed to face the Mets -- the Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw. Instead, manager Jerry Manuel said, Francoeur will start earlier in the four-game series at Dodger Stadium.

Francoeur was out of the starting lineup for all three games in Arizona. That came after he started against both southpaws during a four-game series in San Francisco.

THE CATCH: While acknowledging day games after night games and other wrinkles could force adjustments, Manuel indicated it's now likely Rod Barajas gets three starts every five games, with Henry Blanco catching Johan Santana and Josh Thole handling knuckleballer R.A. Dickey.

Asked if he strongly considered starting Thole on Wednesday a night after the rookie catcher produced his first major league homer, Manuel said: "Rod is a guy we have to get back right. In order to do that, he has to be out there."

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY: Wednesday marks the sixth anniversary of David Wright's major league debut. When Wright landed at LaGuardia Airport this day in 2004, he had a voicemail waiting from then-minor league coach Howard Johnson, encouraging Wright to break the '86 Met's franchise records.
