Nieve was 2-4 with a 6.00 ERA and had allowed 10 homers in 42 innings. He ultimately would need to clear waivers to be sent to Triple-A Buffalo if the Mets go that route.
The Mets originally claimed Nieve off waivers from the Houston Astros on March 13, 2009.
