NEW YORK -- A major league executive familiar with the Mets offered this about the trade interest in Marlon Byrd: “Lots of teams are watching Marlon Byrd whether they admit it or not."

Sandy Alderson has suggested the Mets need to be overwhelmed to trade Byrd, but that might just be posturing to entice the best offer. Then again, the Mets did hold on to Scott Hairston a season ago and then watched him walk during the offseason.

The trade deadline is next Wednesday.
Adam Rubin has covered the Mets since 2003. He's a graduate of Mepham High School on Long Island and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He joined ESPNNewYork after spending 10 years at the New York Daily News.
