Harvey: 'A tough loss for all of us'

7/26/2013

WASHINGTON -- Matt Harvey stuck to his typical mantra after no-decisions and losses: He gave up one run and he needed to do better.

The Mets ultimately lost 2-1 in Friday's nightcap, resulting in a no-decision for Harvey. Of course, Harvey was a little overly harsh on himself. The lone run he surrendered was unearned, because of Daniel Murphy's error trying to turn an inning-ending double play in the fifth.

"My job is to go out there and put up zeroes," Harvey said. "The guys made all the plays. It's just one of those games, it's a tough loss for all of us. We realize we have a pretty quick turnaround and another game tomorrow and Sunday to try to beat these guys this series. It's baseball. It happens."

Harvey is only 8-2 this season despite an ERA that now stands at 2.11. Harvey has seven non-wins (no-decisions or losses) in starts in which he has allowed one or no runs this season. That's one shy of the franchise record. Roger Craig had eight non-wins in 1963 in starts in which he allowed no more than one run.

"I was locating everything pretty well," said Harvey, who threw 99 pitches in eight innings. "The fastball command was right on tonight. I was keeping everything down. I was able to get those double plays when I needed to."
