WASHINGTON -- LaTroy Hawkins, who surrendered Friday night's walk-off homer to Ryan Zimmerman, said he had to challenge the Nat with a fastball after falling behind.

"Three-one [count]," Hawkins said. "We don't want to walk him right there. He hit the ball to the opposite field. You tip your hat to him."

As for the Mets' recent showing, despite the nightcap loss, Hawkins said: "We've been playing great. This second game, we had a chance to win this game. I gave up the home run. But we played well the first game. We've been playing well the last, it's about, six weeks.

"It's funny, because you go look at Twitter and people are like, 'Y'all suck. Y'all this. And y'all that.' It could be a lot worse. I think we've been playing pretty good."
