WASHINGTON -- Jonathon Niese, who last pitched in a game June 20, is back in action.

Niese started Saturday morning's Gulf Coast League game in Viera, Fla., against Washington Nationals farmhands. He allowed four runs (one earned) on three hits and no walks while striking out one in two innings. Infielders Jean Rodriguez and Dominic Smith committed errors behind him.

Niese is on the disabled list with a partial tear of the rotator cuff in his left shoulder.

He should require multiple rehab appearances before rejoining the Mets.
