NEW YORK -- Jonathon Niese rejoined the Mets on Wednesday and pronounced himself ready to be activated from the disabled list Sunday to face the Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix.

Niese made his third rehab start Tuesday, this time with Double-A Binghamton. He logged five innings and tossed 80 pitches. The southpaw estimated he could throw about 95 pitches in his major league return.

"Everything felt good," Niese said. "I should be ready for Sunday."

The Mets will resume employing a six-man once Niese returns.

Niese said he hopes the partial tear of the rotator cuff in his pitching shoulder will fully heal with idle time during the offseason. He plans to do additional exercises to strengthen the muscle.

"I'm going to do a lot more rotator-cuff exercises, shoulder exercises, keeping it stronger, obviously to help prevent anything like this happening again," Niese said. "... It will eventually heal, they told me. That's probably something where the time this offseason will take to heal it. As for now, it's pretty much just keeping it strong, keeping the inflammation down. So far, so good."
