LOS ANGELES -- Since Ike Davis returned from Triple-A Las Vegas on July 5, he has not been in the lineup against any of the seven left-handed starting pitchers the Mets have faced, as Terry Collins employed a platoon with Josh Satin.

That pattern is about to be broken.

With the Mets facing Los Angeles Dodgers southpaws Hyun-Jin Ryu and Chris Capuano the final two games of the series, Collins indicated he plans to reward Davis for his currently strong play with a start in one of those games.

Davis is hitting .305 (25-for-82) with nine doubles, one homer and nine RBIs and has a .485 on-base percentage since his promotion. His .538 OBP since the All-Star break is the best in the majors.

Collins said he was particularly heartened by Davis' plate appearance Sunday against Padres lefty reliever Joe Thatcher. After waving badly at a pitch early in the count, Davis worked out a walk against the southpaw.

"That guy is nasty," Davis said. "I tried to see the ball a little longer. It still was a tough at-bat. He's tough on every lefty. That's why they're lefty specialists.

"It's going to be nice, if I do get a start, to get three at-bats against one instead of just a random reliever that you don't really get to see that much. I'm looking forward to it."
