SAN DIEGO -- Jeremy Hefner, already on the DL with a strained MCL in his right elbow, may require Tommy John surgery.

Sandy Alderson said Hefner will see another doctor on Monday to determine if the procedure is necessary.

Tommy John surgery recovery usually lasts 12 months or more and would knock out Hefner for much if not all of the 2014 season.

"I don't know how serious a possibility, but we have not been able to rule that out at this point," Alderson said.
