With d'Arnaud looming, Recker states case

SAN DIEGO -- If Anthony Recker's playing time is about to greatly diminish with Travis d'Arnaud's promotion, and with John Buck’s return from paternity leave Tuesday, Recker put an exclamation point on his season Friday.

Recker went 3-for-3 and walked in a 5-2 win against the San Diego Padres.

D’Arnaud is due to make his major league debut Saturday. Sandy Alderson said the rookie may stick around with a solid showing during his three-day cameo.

"I just hope I can go out there and prove that I belong here and that I can help the team win a game," said Recker, a waiver claim from the Chicago Cubs last winter. "I kind of leave that stuff up to them. If this helps me stay here, or earn a spot, or whatever it is, great. If not, that’s fine too. Just hopefully we do get some wins if I do play, or when I play."

Said Terry Collins: "We don't know. Nobody knows what the next few weeks are going to bring. Certainly Reck's done one thing: He's come to the ballpark each and every day with a great attitude, a tremendous attitude. He works hard. He gets himself ready. And he's done exactly what we thought he would do -- and that is he's dangerous with a bat in his hand.

"I'll tell you one thing: Dan [Warthen] works hard putting a game plan together. And Anthony Recker sticks with it. He sticks with the game plan and makes those guys stand by what we talk about before a game."
