NEW YORK -- Carlos Torres will stay in the Mets rotation after starting Friday night against Detroit, Mets manager Terry Collins said on Tuesday.

Torres is filling Jenrry Mejia's spot in the rotation, as Mejia has been placed on the disabled list after feeling elbow discomfort on Saturday. Mejia will probably have season-ending surgery in the next seven to 10 days to remove the bone spur in his right elbow, according to Collins.

Torres, who has bounced between the starting rotation and bullpen this season, is 2-2 with a 3.00 ERA in 22 games, three of which he started. Torres went 1-1 with a 6.43 ERA in those starts, but his numbers were heavily skewed by his three-inning, eight-run outing against Washington on July 28.
