Game notes: Jerry Manuel suggested Carlos Beltran originally was scripted to have the matinee off, especially after playing 13 innings the previous night. But Manuel said coaches checked with Beltran and the center fielder wanted to play, in part out of an obligation with Jason Bay sidelined with a concussion. Bay will be evaluated again Friday, with the DL a possibility.
