Frank Francisco is due to rejoin the Mets this weekend in Cleveland. He most recently had been rehabbing with Double-A Binghamton, which was eliminated from the Eastern League playoffs on Friday.

Francisco underwent seemingly harmless surgery to remove a bone spur from his right elbow last Dec. 18, yet continued to complain of discomfort throughout this season and has yet to appear at the major league level in 2013.

Team insiders had suggested Sandy Alderson was unlikely to allow Francisco back on the major league roster, so bringing him back could signal the Mets may intend to trade the ex-closer -- even though Francisco would not be eligible for another team's postseason roster.

Francisco is making $6.5 million this season, so he still is owed $817,000.
