NEW YORK -- Dillon Gee can hit a meaningful milestone in his final 2013 start.
If Gee logs seven innings on Thursday night, he will hit 200 innings for the season. That would be quite a feat considering Gee missed the entire second half of last season recovering from surgery to repair a damaged artery in his pitching shoulder.

"Obviously, coming off last year, with his shoulder problems, or the circulatory problem that he had fixed, I think it was important for Dillon to know that he can be healthy," Terry Collins said. "Now, you start the season and he got off to a slow start -- he'd be the first guy to admit it -- because I think he was concerned how his arm was going to bounce back.
"But when you look up at the end of the year and you're saying, 'OK, geez, you're going to get 30-something starts -- 31 or 32 starts,' and you end up over 200 innings, you've stayed in ballgames. You've been out there for seven innings a game.
"So I think it's a tribute that he's been so consistent that we know when he takes the mound, we're going to stay in the game. And that means a lot to a team."
From a May 30 start at Yankee Stadium, Gee is 10-4 with a 2.57 ERA in 21 starts entering his final 2013 appearance.
"From the first time I saw Dillon Gee ever pitch, you'd get in the batter's box and you didn't know what pitch you were going to get in any count," Collins said. "You've got a 3-1 count. Most guys to this day are sitting on a fastball, right? 'The pitcher has got to throw me a strike. He doesn't want to walk me.' Dillon Gee will throw you any one of his four pitches at 3-1. That's what makes him effective.
"Early in the year, he was throwing fastballs 3-1 because the command of his other stuff wasn't as sharp as he wanted it to be. And once he got a feel for those pitches, especially his changeup, which to me is his No. 1 pitch, he started to sail."
