The Mets have signed right-hander Joel Carreno to a minor league deal with spring-training invite.

Carreno, 26, went a combined 1-2 with a 4.06 ERA in 22 appearances (two starts) for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2011 and '12. The Dominican Republic native went a combined 6-3 with a 2.43 ERA in 50 relief appearances between Double-A New Hampshire and Triple-A Buffalo in the Jays organization this past season.

"Joel Carreno has really solid stuff -- a four-seam fastball at 89-92 mph with a slight cut, average sinker at 88-90 mph," said a baseball person familiar with his Blue Jays career. "He has a really solid slider, but has a tendency to overuse it, especially with runners in scoring position. He's a good competitor, can play a multitude of roles out of the bullpen."
