Loney to Rays; Ike brewing?

Free-agent James Loney has agreed to a multiyear deal with the Tampa Bay Rays, further narrowing the potential destinations for Ike Davis in a trade.

Sending Davis to the Milwaukee Brewers would appear the most likely scenario. Sandy Alderson and Doug Melvin, his Milwaukee counterpart, continued to chat as the winter meetings concluded.

The Pittsburgh Pirates and Houston Astros also were searching for first basemen, but did not appear active in pursuing Davis this week.
