Adam RubinVoters appear to be telling Mike Piazza: Wait 'til next year.

Mike Piazza continues to look like he will fall narrowly short in his quest to become part of this year's Hall of Fame class.

An updated tally from Baseball Think Factory based on ballots made public has Piazza appearing on 71.2 percent of the 146 counted. That's down from 72.2 percent a day earlier.

Players need to reach 75 percent to become elected.

The 146 ballots represent about one-quarter of the total ballots that have been cast.

The Hall of Fame will announce the new class at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, Frank Thomas and Craig Biggio are projected to be elected.
