PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Daniel Murphy is not participating in outdoor morning stretching with teammates Sunday, two days after an aggressive slide into second base resulted in a right-shin issue.

After Friday's game, Murphy had downplayed it as only a scrape.

"The only thing I can say is it's day-to-day right now," Murphy said. "I'm still like 25 percent on the way to my last year's quota of [spring-training] at-bats. So I'm at a pretty good pace right now. My leg's a little sore right now. It's just sore. It's tough to really describe."

Wilmer Flores instead is starting at second base Sunday.

"He could have actually played," Terry Collins insisted to ESPNNewYork.com about Murphy's Sunday availability, while minimizing the severity. "I said no."

Murphy said he has no regrets about aggressively sliding in a spring-training game.

"That's the only way I know how to play," Murphy said. "If I didn't play that way, I don't think I'd be in this clubhouse. I'd be doing something else for a living."
