PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Sandy Alderson has started to approach teams with whom he had talks during the winter to see if there is any existing trade interest in Ike Davis, a source familiar with that renewed dialogue told

Davis (right calf) has not appeared in a Grapefruit League game in more than two weeks, and would need to get back into those games to offer any chance of a trade being consummated. In fact, no one is predicting Davis gets dealt. But Alderson will go through the due diligence just in case.

At least one American League team may have interest in Lucas Duda as well. The Mets are not believed to be completely averse to considering a deal involving Duda.

Davis again is expected to DH in a minor-league game Tuesday afternoon. He has not been running after making contact in those games.

The Pittsburgh Pirates, Milwaukee Brewers, Houston Astros and Baltimore Orioles are among the teams that showed offseason interest in Davis.

ESPN's Jayson Stark reports the Astros have been particularly aggressive seeking an external first baseman of late.
Adam Rubin has covered the Mets since 2003. He's a graduate of Mepham High School on Long Island and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He joined ESPNNewYork after spending 10 years at the New York Daily News.
