PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Daniel Murphy had a two-run double in a three-run third inning against Shelby Miller and the Mets beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 5-3, Monday at Tradition Field.

Daisuke Matsuzaka blanked the Cards through six innings. Gonzalez Germen and Jose Valverde tossed scoreless relief innings, with Valverde protecting a two-run lead to notch the save.

The three-run third began when Ruben Tejada, batting in the No. 9 hole, walked. Eric Young Jr. followed with a bunt single. After Murphy's two-run double, David Wright advanced Murphy to third with a groundout and Granderson had a sacrifice fly.

The Mets' lead swelled to 4-0 in the sixth on Travis d'Arnaud's broken-bat RBI single.
