Nats 4, Mets 0: Zimmermann blanks Mets

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- The Mets closed spring training with a 4-0 loss to the Washington Nationals at Tradition Field on Thursday.

Prospect Cory Mazzoni departed after recording only five outs because of a triceps injury. Jeurys Familia and Kyle Farnsworth combined to allow three runs over the final two innings. Farnsworth, ticketed for Triple-A Las Vegas, was making his first appearance since being released Sunday and re-signing.

The Mets finished Grapefruit League play at 14-14-2.

Eric Young Jr. had three of the Mets’ eight hits and finished the game at shortstop.

Jordan Zimmermann blanked the Mets for five innings. He is due to pitch at Citi Field in Game 3 of the season next Thursday, opposite Zack Wheeler.

What’s next: The Mets face the Toronto Blue Jays at Olympic Stadium in Montreal on Friday and Saturday. Jenrry Mejia starts Friday’s 7:05 p.m. game opposite left-hander Mark Buehrle (WOR 710 AM).
