NEW YORK -- Chris Young is out of the Opening Day lineup with a right quadriceps strain, Terry Collins said. The injury occurred in Montreal during the weekend.
Collins said Lucas Duda would have started in left field if he didn't lose more than two weeks of spring training to a hamstring injury.
Andrew Brown instead will start in left field.
The Mets are off Tuesday, and Young hopes to play Wednesday. "I think it's gonna be a thing that is just the one day," Young said. "Very unfortunate for me personally [though]. It sucks. I’ve been working hard all spring getting ready for Opening Day, and then you get to Opening Day and you're not be able to go out there with your teammates."
Young also said he would be available to pinch-hit Monday if called upon.
