After short stay, Flo now Vegas shortstop

NEW YORK -- Wilmer Flores was demoted to Triple-A Las Vegas after Saturday's 6-3 walk-off win against the Cincinnati Reds. That cleared the roster spot for Jonathon Niese to be activated from the disabled list to start Sunday's series finale.

Niese has made two minor-league starts since receiving a cortisone injection in his left elbow. He expects to be able to throw as many as 95 pitches Sunday.

Flores, originally promoted when Daniel Murphy went on paternity leave Wednesday, stuck around for three extra days because Chris Young landed on the disabled list with a right quadriceps injury.

He started one game at second base and went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.

The Mets plan to have Flores play more shortstop than second base early this season in the Pacific Coast League.
